Lower Swatara Township Residents:

On January 1, 2017, Lebanon Farms Disposal will begin collecting trash and recyclables in the Township.  You may have already received a letter from Lebanon Farms with information on collection days, which are changing.

The Township contract with Penn Waste ends on 12/31/2016.  By law, the Township was required to seek bids for a new contract.  Lebanon Farms Disposal and Penn Waste were the only two bidders for the new contract.  Lebanon Farms was the low bidder by $8.00 per quarter per household.  By law, the Township must chose the lowest responsive bidder.  The difference in the bids is over $400,000.00 in savings to our residents over the initial year term of the contract.  This means your quarterly trash costs will not increase for at least the next five (5) years.

The term of the contract is for an initial five (5) year term, with the option of two (2) one year extensions.  There is the potential for keeping the same provider at the same rate for the next seven (7) years.

As part of the contract, Lebanon Farms Disposal will be providing trash and recycle carts.  These come in several sizes.  The contract calls for residents to receive a 96 gallon trash and a 64 gallon recycle cart.   These will automatically be delivered to your home no later than March 31st.  You may opt for a smaller sized cart for either trash or recycle (64 or 32 gallon), but you must notify Lebanon Farms Disposal within 30 days of receiving your cart. Residents may choose not to utilize a trash cart, but must purchase Lebanon Farms trash bags. In addition, any additional bags beyond what is allotted for weekly pickup can still be purchased from the Township. Trash bags need only be purchased if you are not using a trash cart or you have bags in excess of you weekly amount.  They are available at the Township offices, 1499 Spring Garden Dr., Middletown, PA 17057.

Lebanon Farms Disposal will be changing collection days for trash and recyclables. Monday pickups, will now occur on Fridays (your first pick up will be Friday 1/6/17).  Tuesday pickups will now occur on Thursdays (your first pickup will be Thursday 1/5/17)

You may still put one bulk item with your regular trash collection each week.  For white items (refrigerators, appliances, etc.) please call Lebanon Farms Disposal at 1-800-533-5356.

Christmas trees will be picked up Thursday 1/12/17 and Friday 1/13/18.  Trees are to be free of lights and ornaments and not bagged.

If you have any questions please call Lebanon Farms Disposal M-F at 1-800-533-5356. Thank you for your patience as we all navigate this change in trash vendors.
