In Lower Swatara Township, a “snow emergency” is generally enforced when in excess of 3 inches of snow drops. The public will be notified via radio and TV broadcasts if a “snow emergency” is put into effect. This requires all citizens to remove all vehicles from the Township streets. Vehicles must remain off the streets until the “snow emergency” is lifted. To be safe, park in your driveway when snowfalls are forecast.

Property owners are responsible to maintain the sidewalk, public sidewalk (including corners), and curb immediately in front of their property. All snow, ice, slush, or any combination thereof shall be removed within twenty-four (24) hours after it has ceased to fall.

It is unlawful to place any snow, ice, slush or any combination thereof onto the public street or road after it has been plowed or cleared for the purpose of allowing passage of vehicular traffic

Any violation of the above snow removal procedures may result in a fine of not less than $25.00.
